A new study reveals that honeycomb cells start out as circles and gradually form into hexagons by a subtle flow of wax, which is turned semi-molten by the heat from a special class of worker bee. The walls of adjacent and opposite circular tubes are continually stretched, forming a tiny point that becomes an 'angle' of the hexagon. The honeycomb structure provides strength and the smartest way to store honey.
